Style it Out - Pregnancy Style - my top 10 tips

Yes you can use the words pregnant and stylish in the same sentence!

So having recently had a little girl Minnie, I have decided my next few blog entries will tackle the world of pregnancy fashion, the dos and don'ts, plus my go to labels for the most stylish mums.

DOs
1. In the first trimester it is all about camouflage - this is not the time to get overzealous about buying stretchy jersey pieces - that comes later.
2.For now its all about a-line shapes in drapey fabrics like silk, jersey and loose knits.
3. Invest in good fabrics - as these will be the items you can wear after the baby arrives to disguise the post baby blubber and easily breast feed in.
4. Highlight legs, decolletage and arms, in particular wrists - these will be unaffected by weight gain at this point and draw attention away from the tummy.

6. Go for neutral colours that can be mixed and matched for longevity. Your accessories will make your outfit pop
7. Think about proportion; if your top is voluminous your bottom half should be narrow

DONTs
8. Avoid highlighting the waist (you will find that it is disappearing anyway!) Which means ditch any belted items or high waisted styles.
9.Don't raid your partners wardrobe and his old baggy shirts - tailoring is key and will highlight your shape
10. Don't forget to have fun with your pregnancy style - this is such a special time for a woman and you should make the most of your beautiful bump.

1.Maternity jeans in a style to flatter you whether it be straight skinny or boot cut in dark indigo denim

3. Empire line or trapeze dress, go for a dark neutral colour or a beautiful print that will distract the eye to what is underneath
4. A floor sweeping dress will elongate the body. Summer is a great time to be pregnant as you can stock up on maxi dresses
5. Black leggings, practical and comfortable and easy under jumper dresses
6. Long line tops in drapey jersey
7. Stretchy pencil skirt, perfect for work with wedges or on the weekend with boots
Accessories
8. Put your dainty fine jewellery to the bottom of the box, invest in pendant necklaces, cuffs and cocktail rings
9. Flats are great for running around in but invest in wedges that will give you extra height, balance the bump but still offer support
10. Supportive underwear is essential. Your body is changing so get measured by a professional. Underwear is the foundation of any outfit and should not be overlooked

The £9.99 miracle BB cream

Its hard not to believe the marketing but there are a lot of products out there that fall short of their promises. But Garnier's Miracle Skin Perfector Daily All-in-One B.B. Blemish Balm cream really is brilliant. And not just because it is 10 pounds, but it actually works. Glowing complexion, check...evenness, check...soothing, check. On the days I couldn't be bothered with a full face of makeup this is genius. And people have complimented me on my glowy complexion.

Good for people who are used to the coverage of tinted moisturiser and want a glowy no-makeup look for day. Great for new mum's as it allows you to skip the moisturiser step and blends really easily.

Not so good for people who are used heavier coverage or need to cover pigmentation or have darker skin.

1545 meet my LFW BFF Emily for iced coffee roadside at Cafe Rouge. Talk about our fashion week strategy and outfits and decide flats will be the only option for Monday's schedule and the only option for me with 4 weeks til baby!
1605 baby is kicking in anticipation for the Sass & Bide show to start.
1610 spotted front row Paloma Faith, Poppy Delevigne, Peaches Geldof, Hilary Alexander (who gives Paloma a big hug on seeing her).
1615 show opens with neon burst. Bright chockers clashed with head-to-toe prints (TREND ALERT) and block colours, vibrant blues and citruses, that you could see wearing to drink cocktails at Icebergs, Bondi. Sexy, sassy and fluid
1640 the girls take final bow, Heidi Middleton scooping up her Shirley-Templed-haired fash baby... Cute.

Saturday, 17 September
Putting family before fashion today and missing Henri Holland but secretly hoping to make Jonathan Saunders tonight
7.15 getting texts from LFW BFF saying they are having drinks and the Saunders show is running late... Can I still make it??
7.45 traffic herrendous and no chance of getting west for the show.
8.05 reading the twitter feed, the show gets a standing ovation. Gutted I wasn't there.

Sunday, 18 September
9.30 way to early for the bump and I to be out of bed but I roll out, literally, and get dressed.
11.15 I am running late but so is the Richard Nicoll show. Chatting to a lady in the queue who attended Saunders last night and said it was her favourite so far. Salt on the wound.
11.28 the venue is to capacity and the rest of the people in the queue get turned away including me. Bad organisation! Go to Konditor and Cook and console myslef with a hot choc and coffee cake.

Monday, 19 September
Only made 1 show out of 5 so far, but today is going to be a great day.
9.55 arr at Antonio Berardi
Get fash-papped by Vogue Nippon which makes my week. They assured me it wasn't a sympathy shot for the pregnant lady!
10.23 just before the show starts fashion royalty, Anna Dello Russo arrives in sequin palette Prada coat. Amazing.
10.27 girls walk out in Berardi's signature tailoring with a twist; jackets cut out backs, futurist fabric inlays and panelled sleeves. The side pleat trousers are to die for and deserve a place in every working womans wardrobe. High neck chiffon dresses with cascading trains worn with sequin leggings were a beautiful contrast to the signature tailoring. A glorious palette of mint, pastel pink (pink suiting TREND ALERT), red maroon, and evening black.
11.05 decide to miss Pringle, too much of a rush and opt for long lunch at Da Polpo. So delicious.
I have a look at the Burberry “live tweeted” show where photos were posted of each look on Twitter moments before the model stepped on to the catwalk… Quite a turn around from the days when the public had to wait to see what would be in the stores in 6 months time.
1.45 make our way to Savoy ballrooms the perfect setting for the divine Erdem collection.
2.35 Suzanne Vega's Tom's Diner plays and the girls walk out in light as a cloud lace trench coats, floor length florals, lace shirts and floral pencil skirts, floral dresses with sequin overlay and beaded detailing, off the shoulder lace dresses all in a pastel yellows (TREND ALERT), muted blue greys. Loved the boater hats, soft high ponytails and lace gloves.

12.25 Waiting for Topman to start. Love attending the mens shows and checking out the super stylish London men. As is the way with LFW, the fashion parade begins as soon as you reach the venue and boy do the men of london know how to put on a show! Trousers cropped or rolled just so to expose colourful socks and showcase the shoe, predominantly brogues, seems to be the look du jour. Some fabulous casual outerwear; coloured trenches with the collar popped, heritage tweeds, fringed leather jackets and fur. Shirts buttoned high and hair quiffed or cropped.
12.50 spot Nick Grimshaw, Alex Zane, Philip and Chloe Green on the front row.
I love this collection! The celine inspiration is obvious; pyjama style trousers and relaxed silk shirting in muted prints pay hommage to Phoebe Philo's SS11 collection. Super short shorts worn with knits and skinny, waisted double breasted suits in navy.
These are clothes that your girlfriend would steal from your closet. A lovely finish to fashion week.

How to pack like a pro in 15kg or less +

There is nothing more frustrating than reaching the check-in desk to find out that your luggage is over weight and you are about to pay a bit fat fine (spending money that could have used to buy a not-on-the-high-street holiday treasure). And no batting of your freshly tinted eyelashes is getting to get you out of it either. Not the best start to your holiday.

As the budget airlines get stricter about weight restrictions it is time to learn the secrets of the holiday capsule wardrobe. The trick is to wear your heaviest pieces on the flight (no belts or fiddly strappy sandals that will slow you down at security) and pack versatile beach to bar cover ups and accessories. Your makeup should be minimal, a fabulous bronzer, tinted moisturizer and wow lipgloss will see you through. And invest in a kindle; I am old fashioned and I love a book but it is time to get strict. Light weight doesn't have to mean light on style.

The new skirt length + my top 5 tips on how to wear it

Long have pencil skirts been relegated to the workwear wardrobe but this understated & sexy skirt is now making a come back, most notably, thanks to Marc Jacobs. But this time, we are not talking about the knee length pencil skirt in synthetic fabrics. This season the pencil skirt is reaching new lengths; 1 to 4 inches below the knee to be precise.

The Times magazine on Saturday 6th did a fabulous feature on the new length for the season, the BTK (below the knee). But it takes a bit of working out to get the proportions just so. As a huge fan of the BTK length, I thought I would give you my top tips on how to wear the new length. N.B This is NOT a style for heel-phobes, as a super high sexy shoe is mandatory!

If you are petite... the skirt should sit just below the knee, where the calf goes in, and no longer. Your outfit should be tonal, that is the skirt, tights and shoes should be in the same colour and your top in a slightly lighter version. This will stop the skirt from making you look short.

If you have long legs...This is a fabulous length for you so play around with the length so that the hemline hits the area of your calf that is most flattering to you.

If you have shorter legs... This is not your best style but if this is your dream skirt and a style you want to try then go for a high waisted version and follow the same principles as I have given for petites above.

If you have very slim calves... the length of the hem will inevitably draw attention to your calves. Balance the slimness of your calves with an ankle strap heel and lighter coloured tights or ankle socks and heels

If you have cankles... sorry not a very glamourous expression but for those of you whose calves and ankles blend into the foot, you must slim the leg with platform heels and opaque tights. The skirt length is very important and should not be longer than an inch below the knee.

What I bought in the sale

I shop for myself much like I shop with my clients. I put together a capsule wardrobe and snap up the must have pieces at the beginning of the season and supplement my wardrobe with a few bits and pieces as the season progresses.

So when it comes to sale time I head straight for the accessories; shoes, bags and jewellery. I also look to pick up pieces that tick the trend box for next season. But as I still have my baby bump I will be holding off buying trend pieces til much later in the season and instead I am buying pieces that allow me to feed the little one in style.

I have fine, frizzy, dry hair. My hair resembles all the 'before' pictures and never the 'after' picture, you know the shiny, bouncy, long Kate Middleton hair. It is rare to see me with my hair out adopting the 'up do' of the season to keep my look on-trend. Ballet knots ala Chloe, twists ala YSL, you name it I am doing it. But a fabulous hair cut can and does make all the difference. I have been to many celeb hair stylists that don't ask any questions about my hair and proceed to give me the 'alexa' choppy bob when I don't have hair anything like Alexa's!

Your hairdresser should ask you a lot of questions about the nature of your hair, how you style it, what products you use, how you deal with your hair. You know your hair best so make sure you get that information across. Take in inspiration tear sheets but be realistic about what can be done with your hair type. Most salons offer a free consultation so you can chat with a stylist about what can be achieved. You should take advantage of this.

I have always wanted Ali Mcgraw hair but it is never to be. Instead I have found a new hair muse in Arizona Muse. Not only is she the model of the moment (she stars in this months July issue of Vogue) but I love her blunt bob that feels modern and not mumsy. It is perfect for my hair that can't take the thinning out that a layered look achieves. My fabulous hairdresser Jon Chapman knew exactly what I wanted and most importantly how to achieve it with my hair type. I had a fabulous weekend in Carlisle at the Radio 1 Big Weekend. The highlight was watching Lady Gaga perform from the stage, AMAZING! Watching her made me think about the importance of fashion identity. She is a highly creative performer who likes to push the boundaries and her look, with the help of her amazing stylist Nicola Formichetti, strongly reflects that. Her go to designers include McQueen*, Mugler, & Kiki de Montparnasse if you want some Gaga inspiration.

I don't often write about what I do when I am with my clients. But my job as a Personal Stylist isn't just about clearing and organising wardrobes and personal shopping. A really important part of what I do and what I love doing is getting to the heart of how you see yourself, what you want to wear and where you want to be sartorially. I help you develop a style that suits your current and possible future situations, your lifestyle and your personality. Your own fashion formula if you like.

Here is a fun exercise that you can do (which I do for myself at the beginning of every season) if you find that you are in a style rut or feel you have lost your way sartorially. Buy a pile of magazines and tear out about 10 images that you love and resonate with you. It could be a pair of shoes, a glossy advert for Chanel or your favourite celebrity. Once you have all the images together, have a look for similarities in the images like use of colour, accessories, fabrics, make-up, shapes. Finding the consistent theme will help you develop a consistent signature style that you feel comfortable in and that people will notice. Keep the images in a folder so you can refer back to them when you feel you are losing your way.

So today I want you to think about your message; and whether you are happy with the way you are presenting yourself of whether you need to start developing your style by taking some time out and doing the exercise above.

THAT Wedding

I dont think I could have been more excited about the wedding than if my own sister had been marrying Will. The dress, the first kiss, the long weekend, the party at Shoreditch House. There were many phone calls with my girlfriends on the discussion of what to wear to our party but I knew that in tribute to Kate's love of controversial head piece, I was going to wear a fascinator.

Fascinators: a bit like marmite. Admittedly some wearers give this headpiece a bad name (sorry Eugenie) but there are some amazing contemporary hat designers changing that; Piers Atkinson is a great example, who has produced head pieces for Rihanna, Gaga and Dello Russo. Pointless maybe, but since when does fashion have to have a point? I almost love the decadence of the lack of function. It makes it more fun, and that is what fashion is all about!

I wanted to wear something bespoke, that would look romantic but compliment the modernity of my bump-friendly diaphanous, bright pink acne dress I was wearing. I don't have Philip Treacy on speed dial but I have the next best thing; The Thrifty Stitcher herself, Claire-Louse Hardie. A very talented costumer, who has worked on the best theatre productions the west end has to offer, there isn't anything this girl doesn't know about sewing. So I booked a private session with Claire-Louise to make my own fascinator. Her studio is like a working version of VV Rouleaux, with ribbons, fabrics, flowers, sparkles and electro swing on the ipod, Claire-Lousie is on hand to inspire and encourage you and give you a little helping hand when the glue gun gets messy. I couldn't have had more fun.

14.05 Arrive at Erdem and enter University of Westminster at the same time as Natalie Massenet, from Net a Porter, who is wearing a peach blouse buttoned to the neck and white boucle crepe skirt from of the moment label, Carven.

Walking to my seat I spot Olivia Palermo, Jacquetta wheeler, Susie Bubble, Alexa Chung and Yasmin le Bon. Get serious bag envy when I see Yasmin's vintage crocodile ladylike box bag. Anna Wintour graces the hall with her presence, wearing a Burberry trench, but slips back stage to talk shop with the man of the moment.

14.30 The models appear. Lots of signature florals in muted abstract prints and texture; blood red velvet, floral print sequin, webbed overlays and of course lace. The floral printed trench immediately goes on my wish list.

17. 30 at the Strand Palace hotel the Fabryan show still hasn't started...worried I won't make it to Rupert Sanderson

17. 40 Show begins. Lots of sexy fitted dresses with exposed zips in a simple palette of black and purple. Perfect for after dark escapades.

18. 40 Arrive at Rupert Sanderson showrooms to find I am week early! I curse my lack of attention to diary entry detail but am soon distracted by the heavenly shoes in the Bruton St store.

Tuesday, 22 Feb

11.55 Arrive late for Aquascutum and disappointingly they are on time.I enter the stark white corridor of the Bloomsbury Ballroom and stand at the back

Loved the coat focused collection; it has that instantly wearable feel that Phoebe Philo gave Celine. The new creative director, Joanna Sykes, has definitely put new life into the heritage brand - one to watch.

Lots of camel and stone accented by orange and navy. The fur-trimmed coats are to dye for. On the front row I spot the fashion and beauty director of Harrods, Marigay Mckee and wonder what is on her wish list.

Wednesday 23 Feb

12.30 I skip the MAN show to pick up a dress for a client from designer Omar Mansoor and catch up on his fashion week. The press tent is full of bloggers on laptops all in rows like battery hens. I raid the fridge for chocolate and vitamin water to keep me going, grab LFW Daily and head to opera house for e.tautz.

13.45 Its raining and we are held outside. As the most stylishly tailored men in London encircle me, I make a mental note to ditch the fold up umbrella for a golf umbrella, the Swaine Adeney Brigg kind.

The first few guests are allowed through but as the editor of Business of Fashion, Imran Amed steps out to cross the thresh hold, he is pushed out of the way by a burly security guard as fashion gets feisty. Press has something to answer for with the poor crowd control.

The crush room is spectacularly ornate, complete with chandeliers. The perfect place for an all-British heritage brand. On the front row I spot the Director for Lobbs shoes who supplied the shoes for the collection and Tom Stubbs, Dermot O’Leary’s stylist from X factor and Imran now safely in his seat.

14.00 Patrick Grant, the brains behind the revival of the Saville Row brand, gives a short presentation on the brands ethos (simple menswear, hand made using the best fabric mills in Britain) before the piano cuts in and the men take the walk in a collection that is 60's sportswear balanced with military details in bold block colours inspired by the isle of mull on a sunny day. It is so hard to stay chic when it is minus degrees outside. On many occasions I have given into the cold and swaddled myself in a puffer, losing all shape and basically looking like a walking duvet. So it was with determination that for my first ever ski trip I would be tres chic despite the frosty temps.

For the slopes I headed to Sweaty Betty and kitted myself out from head to toe; who cares if I was all show and no go, I looked like I knew what I was doing. I fell in love with the Ramsay ski suit but opted for the ski jacket and snug trouser; perfect for warmth without the extra bulk. I was disappointed not to be walking out with the Deep fur hat but as my seasonsed skiier husband Mr B. pointed out, wet and fur are not a good combination.

To stay sartorially impressive for apres ski (I am still suffering vin chaud withdrawals) I bundled up by expertly layering with lots of textural touches. I wanted to mix my A/W pieces with 2 key S/S trends; colour and maxi length. Here are a few pieces that will keep you snug and stylish.

In the days of mass-produced high street fashion there is nothing like that smug feeling of owning a one off piece. And I am not talking about having Karl Lagerfeld on speed dial but the vintage treasure you stumble across in a Parisian flee market or found in your local vintage or charity shop that adds individuality to your outfit and is a talking point at parties. Vintage shopping feels soulful and trying to guess the piece’s past makes it all the more pleasurable. But if you are like me and don’t have the patience for ransacking bargain bins and rummaging through hundreds of mis-merchandised items whilst being overwhelmed by the smell musty socks, there are some fabulous stores that stock mint condition vintage whilst giving you that boutique shopping experience. The newest kid on the block is Lily Allen’s store Lucy In Disguise on King Street Covent Garden. Lily and her stepsister Sarah have done all the hard work for you by trawling fairs and markets for their stock. Some highlights include collectibles from Chanel and Pucci and some lesser-known names such as French fashion house Leonard. Another fashion girls favourite, My Sugarland on St John St, Islington is a 2500 square foot space filled with unique fashion finds along side mint condition vintage pieces from 1920s to 1970s. Spotted on a recent trip was a 1940s print dress with matching Bakelite belt, divine!

But if you prefer the challenge of going it alone, here are some top tips for shopping for vintage;

· Ignore the sizes that are inconsistent throughout the decades and if anything opt for the bigger fit so your tailor can alter it to perfection. Never buy too small and it goes without saying that you need to try before you buy!

· If the piece is missing buttons head to the Button Queen on Marylebone lane that specialises in antique buttons.

· Do some research and know your fashion history. Old movies are great for vintage inspiration. Once you are familiar with era and you know what designers you are looking for you are ahead of the pack.

· Have a chat with the storeowners who have indispensible knowledge about vintage and will be able to look out for pieces for you when they are sourcing.

· Look out for underarm stains or spots of mildew as no cleaner can remove these. Also look out for moth holes, as although these can be repaired, it will need to be dry-cleaned before hanging in your wardrobe to kill any hidden larvae.

· Charity shops in the poshest areas can have some really great finds.

· If you are a vintage virgin, start with accessories. You can’t go wrong with an art deco brooch or lizard framed bag.

Thinking about life after school can be really daunting. On top of deciding whether to continue studying or to move straight into employment, there are many other issues that young people need to work through including very importantly what they are going to wear! Knowing how confusing this transition can be, when I was approached by the London Business School to work with four female 6th form students from Haverstock School to help prepare them for the world of work, I jumped at the opportunity. With the help of my gorgeous assistant Michelle, we put together a fun and informative style workshop that would build the girls self esteem and confiedence and give them invaluable hints and tips for dressing well on a budget.

In the buzzing surrounds of the London Business School campus, situated in one of the light and airy meeting rooms, Michelle and I set up the style workshop and waited for the girls to arrive. And we couldn't have had asked for a more intelligent, sweet and funny group of teenage girls; Soma, Arjeta, Sara and Kerry were such a delight to work with. The listened attentively as we spoke to them about the importance of first impressions, they sat inquisitively as we draped them to determine their colouring characteristics, they happily presented their inspiration tear sheets as we discussed style preferences, they revealed their body likes and dislikes as we talked through dressing for your body shape, and they were inspired to make the most of the clothes that they had as we explained how to save time and money by creating a capsule wardrobe and using accessories.

The girls were mostly excited about dressing to compliment their colouring and the realisation that they didn't need a huge wardrobe to create different outfit combinations. Not only did the girls leave the room buzzing with a new found confidence and knowledge but I was beaming from ear to ear. It is not everyday that you get to work with young people and give something back to the community, a fabulous experience.

Newsrooms Got Talent Charity Event

We helped raise £60 000 at this years Newsrooms Got Talent, a charity event raising money for three charities; SANE, Leonard Cheshire Disability and Helen and Douglas House Hospice.

The talent contest, staged in front of a live audience, saw the nation’s favourite news teams, including ITN, BBC and Channel 4 don a series of hilarious costumes and step out from behind their desks to compete against each other.

They performed a variety of singing and dancing acts in an attempt to wow celebrity judges Arlene Phillips, Louie Spence and Johnny Vaughan.

Katie Derham said: “For one night only I was back with my ITV friends, wearing leg warmers and a ra-ra skirt. What could be more fun for a better cause!”

Strolling down Robertson I found myself adapting the local dress of denim (shorts, jeans, skirt or dress; you can take your pick this season!), gladiator sandals and oversize sunglasses or a maxi dress. I picked up a silk shirt from Equipment Signature at Intermix which I will use to add sophistication to my denim. The silk makes it sexier and more relaxed than the crisp button up masculine shirts and the fit is truly flattering. I updated my denim wardrobe with a(nother) pair of J Brand Stockholm in Noir and Krys in Phoebe. These are my new favourite weekend jeans. Skinny in shape but slouchy and comfortable like a boyfriend jean. Perfect! My little yellow wallet had seen better days so whilst collecting nick knacks from the Marc by Marc Jacobs store, I spotted this beauty. The turn lock adds an urbane edge to the classic shape and the gorgeous raspberry colour ensures I will never lose sight of it in my over sized handbags.

Although LA can never compete with New York when it comes to shopping, you can't go wrong with maxing out your card in any these stores...

It is officially spring (although what was that down pour of rain!?) and it is approaching the wedding season, hooray, I love weddings! I am styling some gorgeous woman for their weddings so I know they will look amazing but I am starting to plan my outfits.

Weddings can be expensive so I like to buy pieces that I can then wear back with my staples I already have in the wardrobe or use accessories to vary the look. Maxi dresses are huge for spring summer and they come in great prints and colour ways. For an informal wedding wear with flat sandals and add a belt at the natural waist. I saw Henry Holland last night at the Universal Brits after party and received the biggest hug ever so I thought I would big him up.

Henry rose to fashion fame with his in-joke rhyming t shirts, he has moved on to present collections that are fun, upbeat and technicolour. I distinctly remember the anticipation I felt at the beginning of every school year for the annual trip to Clarks for a new pair of shiny black shoes. How much would my feet have grown, will I have buckles or lace-ups, brogued or plain?? Remember the shoe fitting contraption measuring exactly how long and wide your feet are, like a perfect mathematical formula for the perfect fit? (Why did they ever stop using those?!)

It was a sad day when I moved into senior school and graduated from Clarks to Doc Martins. But a girl has to move on and my fashioned heart can be fickle.

I never would thought that Clarks would back on my fashion radar today. But I can't resist the vintage inspired styles of the Clarks Originals range. The Ethel Flare is a fave, wear with leggings and a jumper dress or a pair of 7/8th jeans and some chunky socks. these could easily be mistaken for the See by Chloe Desert boot (seen above in beige) but at a 1/3 of the price. It is worth the priceless look on your friends face when they ask where you got your shoes and you say nonchalantly, 'Clarks'.

I received the best compliment of my whole life yesterday, I was compared to a woman who is not only strong in character but is hugely admired for her style. After her appearance in Bonnie & Clyde, Fay Dunaway helped bring the fashion in the 30s back to knitted sweaters, pleated skirts, berets and trench coats and brought her style to iconic status. There is something enchanting and original about a gap-toothed beauty. I have always admired Lauren Hutton's chic masculine style and her ability to grow old gracefully. The gap-toothed, tossled-hair beauty has long been a style icon of mine but 2 new faces with the same quirky trait are grabbing my attention; Lara Stone and Georgia Jagger.

I loved the campaign for Jaeger featuring Lara Stone (seen above clutching the black bag) so much that I ripped the page from the magazine to show my hair stylist, insisting he curl my hair in the exact same way. Her beauty is captured to perfection by Mario Testino in this months (December edition) UK Vogue.

With Mick Jagger as a father and Jerry Hall as a mother, Georgia May Jagger certainly hails from the deeper end of the gene pool. With a slightly edgier look than her mother Jerry Hall, Georgia has captured the imagination of Donatella Versace and is confirmed as the new face for Versace.

I am so excited about the new biopic ‘Amelia’ starring Hilary Swank we are dedicating this style update to Amelia Earhart.

Nick Knight is a genius. If you haven't seen the amazing album cover he has done for Cheryl Cole, here it is. I heard Cheryl's new single '3 words' on the Chris Moyles show this morning and I loved it. She turned up to the studio in a cute APC anchor jumper. APC is a French classic; simplicity with a cool-cute twist. Team this with biker jacket and jeans or wear over a lace slip or checked dress with ankle boots. Autumn is upon us and winter round the corner so for some fun and a feel good factor on a really grey rainy day this week I went to the Marc by Marc Jacobs store on Mount Street, W1. I was on my way to a personal shopping appointment in Selfridges and I quickly snuck in and grabbed one of the lipstick shaped pens for only £1! (come here to check out the knee high flat boots that I mentioned in my previous post). There are loads of other wallet friendly finds so if you haven't been you must check it out.

Pretty Woman is THE modern-day fairy-tale and one of my favourite movies of all time. I love the smugly satisfying scene where Julia Roberts’ character Vivian Ward returns triumphantly to the Rodeo drive boutique where she was previously snubbed. But Pretty Woman would not be at the top of my list for movies that influence my style (but who can deny Annie Hall, Bonnie & Clyde and Stealing Beauty a deserved place). Yet as I review my wardrobe for this season, draw up my wish list and research my favourite fashion websites (net-a-porter, browns and my-wardrobe) for possible contenders, I find two of my most coveted items hail straight from Vivian Ward's pre make-over wardrobe; the cut-out dress and thigh high boots. But I am not quite ready for pretty woman style flesh flashing; I prefer Preens interpretation of the former. I love the playful peek a boo inserts in the waist line of the grey Swoosh silk dress from net-a-porter. It has just the right amount of sensuality without giving it all away. Accessorised with my blonde curls, some spotted tights from Gerbe and a black shoe boot this dress is perfect for a cocktail party or an anniversary dinner date with my husband. Keeping with the cut-out trend I also love L’autre Chose teardrop detail shoe-boot from asos.
I could never get away with Vivian’s thigh high glossy heeled boots (would I want to?!) but I found a pair that tick all the right sartorial boxes. Marc by Marc Jacobs has designed my thigh high boot of choice; suede, flat with an almond toe and scalloped edging around the top, they are so soft I can wear them slouchy with a dress or pull them up over leggings or jeans. And most importantly, not a safety pin in sight.
